Cormorant with Trout - Nevada

Black Cormorant swims carrying trout
The cormorants at the fishing pond in Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City can always be counted on to put on a show catching planted fish. The fishermen hate these birds, but I find them quite interesting . While I sympathize with the fishermen, I am interested in photographing the cormorants in different poses. Each catch is different from all the others. This one shot high out of the water with its' trout. The cormorant chases the fish with its' wings tight against its' body, propelled by its' rapidly moving webbed feet. They can obviously swim faster that a trout. Occasionally they chase the trout close enough to me that I can see them swimming under water.
